Short explanation

Goobi viewer versions 24.03 through 26.05 contain a path traversal vulnerability where the ExternalFilesDownloader component processes the HTTP Content-Disposition header without stripping directory components.

Why does it matter?

This critical flaw allows attackers to write arbitrary files through external HTTP servers and achieve remote code execution within the context of the Tomcat process.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisory guidance to apply updates
  • Audit the security of external file download sources
  • Upgrade application components to secure releases
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

The Goobi viewer is a web application that allows digitised material to be displayed in a web browser. From version 24.03 to before version 26.05, ExternalFilesDownloader.getFilename() extracts the destination filename from a server-supplied Content-Disposition response header and passes it directly to Path.resolve() without stripping directory components. This allows for a malicious HTTP server that the viewer fetches from to supply an absolute path or ../ traversal sequences as the filename, writing attacker-controlled content to an arbitrary path writable by the Tomcat process. When targeting the deployed web-application directory, this yields remote code execution as the tomcat OS user. This issue has been patched in version 26.05.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence
