Short explanation

Goobi viewer fails to enforce the aud claim during cryptographic validation within AuthenticationEndpoint.verifyOpenIdToken. This flaw can lead to authentication bypass and unauthorized access in multi-relying party setups.

Why does it matter?

In multi-relying party identity provider setups, an attacker can leverage tokens issued for a different party to impersonate users and gain unauthorized access.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory for update guidance
  • Review identity provider configurations
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

The Goobi viewer is a web application that allows digitised material to be displayed in a web browser. From version 25.01 to before version 26.05, AuthenticationEndpoint.verifyOpenIdToken builds its verifier as JWT.require(algorithm).withIssuer(issuer).build() and does not enforce the aud claim during cryptographic validation. The aud check is performed manually afterwards via a single string-equality call, which only handles single-string aud values. In a multi-RP IdP setup, a token whose single-string aud matches the viewer's client ID but was issued for a different relying party passes the check and authenticates the attacker as the token's sub. This issue has been patched in version 26.05.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
