Out-of-bounds Read Vulnerability in Eclipse Foundation NetX Duo

Short explanation

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in Eclipse Foundation NetX Duo due to a missing tlv_length check in _nx_secure_x509_parse_signature_data.

Why does it matter?

Remote, unauthenticated attackers can trigger a denial of service condition during the TLS handshake using specially crafted certificates.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Review updates for unaffected versions
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

`_nx_secure_x509_parse_signature_data` computes the certificate signature's length as `tlv_length - 1` without first checking that `tlv_length` is non-zero. A certificate whose signature is an empty ASN.1 BIT STRING therefore parses successfully and leaves the certificate holding a signature length of `0xFFFFFFFF` and a signature pointer one byte past the end of the buffer. Certificates are parsed from the peer during the TLS handshake, so the input is remote and unauthenticated.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
