Short explanation

The twisted.names.dns.DNSDatagramProtocol component in Twisted accepts UDP DNS responses for pending queries by matching only the 16-bit transaction ID without verifying the source address. This flaw allows attackers to inject forged DNS answers and redirect hostname resolution.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability can enable mail interception, server-side request forgery, or man-in-the-middle positioning.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories for updates
  • Review related security advisories
  • Examine DNSDatagramProtocol instance reuse in applications
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

twisted.names.dns.DNSDatagramProtocol, işlem kimliği eşleştiğinde kaynak adres doğrulaması yapmadan UDP DNS yanıtlarını kabul eder.

Show the technical text from the sources

Twisted is an event-based framework for internet applications, supporting Python 3.6+. Prior to 26.10.0rc1, twisted.names.dns.DNSDatagramProtocol accepts a UDP DNS response for a pending query when its 16-bit transaction ID matches but does not verify that the response came from the queried host and port. An attacker able to deliver a packet to the resolver's listening port with the correct transaction ID can inject a forged answer. The standard twisted.names.client.Resolver uses a new random source port for each query, increasing off-path attack complexity, while applications that reuse a DNSDatagramProtocol instance expose only the transaction-ID search space after the first query. A successful forgery can redirect hostname resolution and enable mail interception, server-side request forgery, or man-in-the-middle positioning. This issue is fixed in version 26.10.0rc1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
