Short explanation

When Jetty's HttpClient makes a request to a server through a forward proxy, the server may reply with a 407 Proxy Authentication Required. The client mistakenly interprets the 407 as coming from the proxy and resends the request with the Proxy-Authentication header, granting the server access to proxy credentials.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability matters because target servers can gain access to proxy credentials, potentially leading to information disclosure and sensitive data exposure.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories and security guidance
  • Review and apply available updates
