Short explanation

In Eclipse Foundation Eclipse Connected Services Platform api-gateway versions up to 1.7.3, the default rate-limit key resolver ClientIpKeyResolver derives the per-client bucket key from the leftmost element of the X-Forwarded-For request header without validating against a trusted-proxy list, allowing attackers to completely bypass request-rate limiting.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to completely bypass request-rate limits and potentially cause availability issues across routes using the default configuration.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory for updates
  • Review default key resolver configurations

api-gateway 1.7.3 ve önceki sürümlerde ClientIpKeyResolver varsayılan kova anahtarını X-Forwarded-For başlığının sol elemanından türetmektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

In `api-gateway` versions till `1.7.3`, The default rate-limit key resolver, `ClientIpKeyResolver`, derives the per-client bucket key from the leftmost element of the `X-Forwarded-For` request header. That element is supplied by the originating HTTP client and is not validated against any trusted-proxy list. A single attacker can therefore obtain an unlimited number of independent rate-limit buckets — one per unique header value — and completely bypass the gateway's request-rate limiting on every route that uses the shipped default configuration.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
