Short explanation
In api-gateway versions up to 1.7.3, the default rate-limit key resolver derives the client bucket key from the X-Forwarded-For header without trusted-proxy validation. (S0)
Attackers can obtain an unlimited number of independent rate-limit buckets and completely bypass request-rate limiting on default routes. (S0)
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories and updates.
- Review default rate-limit configurations.
- Implement proper header validation controls for X-Forwarded-For.
Chain of evidence and sources
api-gateway sürümlerinde 1.7.3 dahil ve öncesinde varsayılan oran sınırlama anahtarı çözücüsü X-Forwarded-For başlığını doğrulamamaktadır. (S0)
Saldırganlar benzersiz başlık değerleri ile istek oranı sınırlamasını tamamen atlayabilmektedir. (S0)
Show the technical text from the sources
In `api-gateway` versions till `1.7.3`, The default rate-limit key resolver, `ClientIpKeyResolver`, derives the per-client bucket key from the leftmost element of the `X-Forwarded-For` request header. That element is supplied by the originating HTTP client and is not validated against any trusted-proxy list. A single attacker can therefore obtain an unlimited number of independent rate-limit buckets — one per unique header value — and completely bypass the gateway's request-rate limiting on every route that uses the shipped default configuration.
