Short explanation
Lychee is affected by a resource consumption vulnerability due to a lack of an effective pre-render limit for PDF page dimensions in ImagickHandler::loadPdf(), allowing authenticated users to trigger high CPU usage.
This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers to occupy web workers or clog shared image processing queues, which can disrupt normal application availability and delay other background tasks.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories to check for updates or version 7.7.0
- Apply the recommended vendor patches
Chain of evidence and sources
Lychee, 7.7.0 öncesi sürümlerde ImagickHandler::loadPdf() içinde PDF sayfa boyutları için etkin bir ön işleme sınırı uygulamamaktadır.
Kimlik doğrulamış bir kullanıcı tarafından yüklenen büyük /MediaBox alanına sahip küçük bir PDF, Imagick::readImage() fonksiyonunun yüksek CPU tüketmesine yol açar.
Show the technical text from the sources
Lychee is a free, open-source photo-management tool. Prior to 7.7.0, Lychee enables ImageMagick PDF support with Ghostscript but does not apply an effective pre-render limit to PDF page dimensions in ImagickHandler::loadPdf(). An authenticated user who can upload a small PDF with an oversized /MediaBox can cause Imagick::readImage() to consume substantial CPU before failing to produce an image. When QUEUE_CONNECTION selects synchronous processing the request can occupy a web worker, while the official asynchronous Docker configuration can clog the shared image-processing queue and delay other work. The advisory did not identify a Ghostscript sandbox escape. This issue is fixed in version 7.7.0.
