Short explanation

Hickory DNS contains an unbounded loop vulnerability during NSEC3 closest-encloser proof validation. This condition can trigger panics in debug builds or memory exhaustion in release builds.

Why does it matter?

Remote attackers can create denial of service conditions, impacting system stability on vulnerable versions.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories.
  • Review the affected version ranges.
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Hickory DNS hickory-proto 0.25.0-alpha.3 ile 0.25.2 arası ve hickory-net 0.26.1 öncesi sürümler sınırsız döngü zafiyeti içermektedir.

Saldırganlar, çapraz bölge SOA kaydı içeren NoData veya NXDomain yanıtları döndürerek bellek tüketimine yol açabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Hickory DNS hickory-proto 0.25.0-alpha.3 through 0.25.2 and hickory-net before 0.26.1 contain an unbounded loop vulnerability in DnssecDnsHandle NSEC3 closest-encloser proof validation when the SOA owner is not an ancestor of the QNAME. Upstream attackers can return NoData or NXDomain responses with a cross-zone SOA record to panic debug builds or exhaust memory in release builds.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
