Short explanation

Hickory DNS contains a DNSSEC validation bypass vulnerability caused by failing to verify the RRSIG Signer's Name field.

Why does it matter?

Attackers controlling a secure zone can produce valid signatures over arbitrary records in unrelated zones, bypassing authentication mechanisms.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor security advisories
  • Update affected versions
  • Review official sources for update details
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Hickory DNS hickory-proto 0.1 through 0.25.0-alpha.3 and hickory-net before 0.26.2 contain a DNSSEC validation bypass because the validator verifies an RRSIG against the DNSKEY of whatever name appears in its Signer's Name field without checking that this name is the zone containing the RRset. Attackers controlling any secure zone can produce valid signatures over arbitrary records in unrelated zones, which resolvers, recursors, and clients using DnssecDnsHandle accept as authenticated.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
