DoS Vulnerability in Go JOSE

Short explanation

Go JOSE is vulnerable to a remote denial of service due to missing RSA key validation checks during JWK parsing.

Why does it matter?

Applications parsing JWK data from untrusted sources can suffer from excessive CPU consumption when presented with crafted parameters, leading to service disruption.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 4.1.6 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories regarding patch status
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

go-jose, 4.1.6 sürümünden önce JWK ayrıştırma sırasında RSA parametrelerini boyut ve tutarlılık sınırlarını denetlemeden işler.

Go 1.24 ve sonraki sürümlerde, hazırlanmış RSA parametreleri doğrulamanın kübik CPU süresi tüketmesine yol açarak uzaktan hizmet dışı bırakmaya sebep olur.

Show the technical text from the sources

Go JOSE provides an implementation of the Javascript Object Signing and Encryption set of standards in Go, including support for JSON Web Encryption (JWE), JSON Web Signature (JWS), and JSON Web Token (JWT) standards. Prior to 4.1.6, go-jose parses attacker-controlled RSA modulus and prime values from JWKs without enforcing size and consistency bounds before passing them to crypto/rsa.PrivateKey.Validate. On Go 1.24 and later, crafted large or degenerate RSA parameters can make that validation consume cubic CPU time, allowing remote denial of service in applications that parse JWKs from untrusted sources. This issue is fixed in version 4.1.6.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
