Short explanation

In go-jose prior to version 4.1.5, parsing attacker-controlled JSON allows deeply nested arrays or objects to exceed Go stack limits, resulting in stack overflow. S0, S1

Why does it matter?

It can crash applications that parse untrusted JSON, leading to denial of service conditions. S0, S1

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories S0
  • Update the go-jose version S0, S1

Show the technical text from the sources

Go JOSE provides an implementation of the Javascript Object Signing and Encryption set of standards in Go, including support for JSON Web Encryption (JWE), JSON Web Signature (JWS), and JSON Web Token (JWT) standards. Prior to 4.1.5, parsing attacker-controlled JSON through go-jose allows deeply nested arrays or objects to exceed Go's stack limit. The resulting stack overflow crashes the application and permits denial of service in applications that parse untrusted JSON through go-jose. This issue is fixed in version 4.1.5.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
