Short explanation
CVE-2026-111227 is a CRLF injection flaw in pfSense CE up to version 2.9.0 that allows authenticated users with the DNS Resolver: Access Lists privilege to inject Unbound configuration directives and manipulate DNS answers for LAN clients.
Altered DNS responses can enable spoofing, credential theft, and lateral movement within the internal network.
What should be done?
- Monitor and restrict privileged accounts
- Follow vendor advisory and apply patches when released
- Sanitize input to reject CR/LF characters
- Log changes to access_lists.conf
