Short explanation
Netgate pfSense CE through version 2.9.0 contains a command injection vulnerability that allows privileged users to inject mpd.secret entries via unvalidated username POST fields in services_pppoe_edit.php.
This vulnerability allows attackers to make mpd5 run commands with root privileges when a PPPoE client authenticates, potentially leading to system compromise.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories for patch availability
- Restrict privileged user access
- Review PPPoE server configurations
