Short explanation
Netgate pfSense CE versions 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contain an OS command injection vulnerability in interfaces_qinq_edit.php. This flaw allows authenticated users with QinQ edit privilege to execute commands with root privileges.
It matters because an authorized attacker can run arbitrary commands with root privileges on a vulnerable firewall, compromising system integrity.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories
- Audit QinQ editing privileges closely

Chain of evidence and sources
Show the technical text from the sources
Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with QinQ edit privilege to run commands by storing an unvalidated parent interface name. Attackers can save a crafted 'if' value, then edit the QinQ entry so it is interpolated into ifconfig shell commands, executing commands as root.
