Short explanation

CVE-2026-101307 is a remotely triggerable buffer overflow vulnerability located in tcp_rack. In systems utilizing the RACK stack, counter wrapping during the growth of the PCM sample array can lead to an out-of-bounds write in the kernel heap.

Why does it matter?

A remote attacker can trigger an out-of-bounds write of approximately 512 KB in the kernel heap by sending a sufficient number of ACKs over an established TCP connection, potentially resulting in a kernel panic.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories
  • Review the corresponding FreeBSD security advisory
  • Apply available updates or workarounds
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Uzak bir saldırgan, kurulu bir TCP bağlantısı üzerinden yeterli sayıda ACK göndererek sınır dışı yazma tetikleyebilir.

Sayaç taşması neredeyse sıfır uzunlukta tahsisata ve çekirdek yığınında yaklaşık 512 KB sınır dışı yazmaya neden olur.

Show the technical text from the sources

When the PCM sample array needs to grow, the RACK stack doubles a 16-bit allocation counter. Repeated doublings caused the counter to wrap to zero, resulting in a near-zero-length allocation followed by a copy of the existing samples into the undersized buffer. A remote peer can trigger the expansion by sending a sufficient number of ACKs on an established connection. A remote attacker who can establish a TCP connection to a system using the RACK stack can trigger an out-of-bounds write of approximately 512 KB in the kernel heap possibly resulting in a kernel panic.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
