Short explanation

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's asymmetric keys subsystem allows unprivileged callers to trigger a NULL pointer dereference when PKCS#8 keys without IDs are supplied to restrictions. Attackers can trigger this via KEYCTL_RESTRICT_KEYRING followed by add_key.

Why does it matter?

This flaw allows local users to trigger kernel panics or system crashes, directly impacting service availability and stability.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Apply kernel updates
Note on uncertainty

The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.

Show the technical text from the sources

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: asymmetric_keys: reject trust keys without IDs The PKCS#8 parser deliberately leaves the asym_key_ids payload slot empty. key_or_keyring_common() unconditionally dereferences that slot when a PKCS#8 key is supplied to a key_or_keyring restriction. Both the plain and :chain forms reach this branch, allowing an unprivileged caller to trigger a NULL pointer dereference through KEYCTL_RESTRICT_KEYRING followed by add_key(). A PKCS#8 private key cannot identify the signer of a candidate certificate and is not a valid trust anchor.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
