Short explanation
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel within tps6598x_connect() involves an uninitialized typec_partner_desc structure, leading to potential stack data leakage and invalid function pointer execution. The patch status is UNKNOWN.
This vulnerability can cause stack data leakage through sysfs or trigger garbage function pointers when a USB device is linked to the port.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories and updates
- Review the kernel commit references provided
- Adhere to vendor guidance for the UNKNOWN patch status
Chain of evidence and sources
tps6598x_connect() fonksiyonu, yığında ayrılan typec_partner_desc yapısını eksik alanlarla typec_register_partner() fonksiyonuna aktarır.
Ayarlanmayan alanlar, typec_partner_link_device() çağrıldığında çöplük fonksiyon işaretçilerinin çalıştırılmasına neden olabilir.
Başlatılmamış pd_revision ve usb_capability alanları, partner sysfs aracılığıyla yığın verisi sızdırabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: typec: tipd: fix uninitialized typec_partner_desc in tps6598x_connect() tps6598x_connect() passes a stack-allocated typec_partner_desc to typec_register_partner() after initializing only usb_pd, accessory and identity. typec_register_partner() copies attach and deattach from the descriptor into the partner. With those fields left unset, garbage function pointers may be stored and later invoked from typec_partner_link_device() when a USB device is linked to the port. Uninitialized pd_revision and usb_capability similarly leak stack data through partner sysfs. Zero-initialize the descriptor so optional callbacks remain NULL and the remaining fields are zero.
