Short explanation

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel stems from an improper USB serial driver deregistration order. When unloading a driver module, failing to deregister the USB driver before the USB serial bus drivers can lead to a use-after-free condition in completion handlers.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability addresses a driver deregistration ordering flaw in the Linux kernel that can compromise memory integrity and trigger use-after-free conditions during port data access by completion handlers.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and official updates
  • Apply provided patches and updates for the Linux kernel
  • Ensure driver module unloading follows the correct sequence
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Linux çekirdeğindeki USB seri sürücü modülleri, USB veri yolu ve portlar için sürücüler kaydetmektedir.

Sürücü modülü kaldırılırken USB sürücüsünün USB seri veri yolu sürücülerinden önce kaydı silinmelidir.

Doğru olmayan kayıt silme sırası, tamamlama işleyicilerinde use-after-free durumuna yol açabilmektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: serial: fix driver deregistration order USB serial driver modules register one driver for the USB bus and one or more drivers for the ports on the USB serial bus. When unloading a driver module, the USB driver must be deregistered before the USB serial bus drivers so that I/O is stopped before unbinding the ports to avoid use-after-free in completion handlers accessing port data. Note that the "new_id" attributes must first be removed to prevent new ids from being added and triggering a probe of the USB driver after it has been deregistered.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
