Short explanation

Keycloak's protocol mapper permits a client manager to alter claims in a sessionless service‑account token, causing the token to be resolved as a realm administrator and granting full control over the realm (S1).

Why does it matter?

An attacker with client‑management rights can gain administrator privileges and compromise the authentication environment (S1).

What should be done?

  • Follow Red Hat advisory and apply the fix when released (S0)
  • Restrict client manager permissions to the minimum required
  • Audit and remove unnecessary hardcoded‑claim mappers
  • Monitor token usage for anomalous behavior
  • Review usage of sessionless service‑account tokens
  • Stay updated with Red Hat security announcements
Note on uncertainty

The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.

Show the technical text from the sources

A flaw was found in the protocol mapper and identity resolution components of Keycloak. The issue occurs when a client manager uses hardcoded-claim mappers to override identity claims in sessionless service-account tokens. Because these tokens lack a session ID, Keycloak may incorrectly resolve the token bearer as a different, highly privileged user based on the manipulated claims. This can allow an attacker with limited client management permissions to impersonate a realm administrator and gain full control over the realm.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
