Short explanation
The Advanced Custom Fields: Extended and Advanced Custom Fields: Extended PRO WordPress plugins prior to version 0.9.2.8 lack capability checks during front-end form actions, allowing unauthenticated visitors to overwrite arbitrary posts [S0]. This vulnerability can lead to remote code execution on the server [S0].
This vulnerability does not require authentication and can allow attackers to achieve remote code execution on the server [S0]. The absence of permission checks in vulnerable plugin versions significantly increases security risks [S0].
What should be done?
- Follow official vendor advisories [S0].
- Upgrade the plugin to the updated version [S0].
- Review front-end form actions and configurations [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources
The Advanced Custom Fields: Extended WordPress plugin before 0.9.2.8, Advanced Custom Fields: Extended PRO WordPress plugin before 0.9.2.8 does not perform any capability check when updating a post through one of its front-end form actions, allowing unauthenticated visitors to overwrite arbitrary posts, including the ones in which the site stores its own field definitions, which in turn leads to arbitrary code execution on the server. Exploitation requires the site to publish a form whose post-update action maps both its target and its content to visitor-submitted values.
