Short explanation

An authorization bypass vulnerability exists in ContentPermissionServices within Apache OFBiz 24.09 versions (S0). A remote authenticated attacker with limited content-create permissions can self-grant the OWNER role on arbitrary content (S0). This grants the attacker full read, write, and delete control over content they should not access (S0).

Why does it matter?

It allows authenticated users with limited privileges to gain an unauthorized OWNER role, achieving full control over content and compromising data integrity (S0).

What should be done?

  • Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08 (S0).
  • Follow official vendor advisories for updates (S0).
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Apache OFBiz 24.09 sürümlerinde ContentPermissionServices içinde yanlış yetkilendirme zafiyeti bulunmaktadır (S0).

Saldırgan createContentRole servisini çağırarak OWNER rolünü kendi kendine atayabilir (S0).

Kullanıcıların zafiyeti gidermek için 24.09.08 sürümüne yükseltme yapması önerilir (S0).

Show the technical text from the sources

Incorrect Authorization in ContentPermissionServices in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only a limited content-create permission to self-grant the OWNER role on arbitrary content by invoking the createContentRole service (e.g. via the createForumGroupRole request), causing the permission check to fall through to a fail-open default-grant branch when no ContentPurposeOperation entry matches the requested operation and content purpose, rather than denying the request. A self-granted OWNER role then satisfies the ownership check used to authorize update, removal, and status changes on that content, giving the attacker full read/write/delete control over content they should not have access to. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.
