Short explanation

CVE-2026-77474 is a vulnerability in destructive_command_guard (dcg) where nested or unclosed command substitutions produce exponential-time work, causing dcg to hang and bypass the guard via hook-timeout fail-open [S0, S1].

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows destructive shell commands to bypass the safety check designed to block them before execution by AI coding agents, potentially leading to unauthorized command execution [S0, S1].

What should be done?

  • Update to version 0.6.6 or later [S0, S1]
  • Follow vendor advisories and patches [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

0.6.6 öncesi sürümlerde iç içe veya kapatılmamış ikameler özyinelemeli olarak yeniden taranarak üstel zamanlı iş yükü üretir.

Askıda kalan PreToolUse kancası başarısız açık (fail-open) davranarak yıkıcı komutun çalışmasına izin verir.

Show the technical text from the sources

destructive_command_guard (dcg) is a command-line safety tool that blocks destructive shell commands before AI coding agents run them. Prior to 0.6.6, nested or unclosed substitutions are recursively rescanned after an inner scan returns unterminated, producing exponential-time work. The affected scanners are reached through split_command_segments in src/packs/mod.rs. a destructive command followed by nested or unclosed $( or $(( sequences. nested or unclosed $( and $(( sequences cause repeated rescanning of the remaining command suffix. a hung PreToolUse hook fails open, allowing the destructive command to proceed. This issue is fixed in version 0.6.6.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
