Short explanation
An improper access control vulnerability in Splunk Enterprise allows users without admin or power roles to move field extractions or transformations to apps lacking read access.
This security flaw allows unauthorized users to manipulate knowledge object permissions and bypass access boundaries, leading to integrity violations in enterprise environments.
What should be done?
- Follow the guidelines provided in the vendor advisory
- Monitor official updates regarding the patch status
Chain of evidence and sources
Splunk Enterprise sürümlerinde admin veya power rolü olmayan kullanıcılar, alan çıkarımlarını veya dönüşümlerini okuma erişimleri olmayan uygulamalara taşıyabilir.
REST API, alan çıkarımı ve dönüşümü taşıma işlemlerinden önce hedef uygulama erişimini doğrulamamaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.4, 10.2.8, 10.0.11, and 9.4.16, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could move field extractions or field transformations to apps for which the user does not have read access. The vulnerability is possible because the Representational State Transfer (REST) API does not validate destination app access before it processes field extraction and field transformation move operations.
