Short explanation
The Kirki plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation via PHP Object Injection in versions 6.2.5 and prior. Missing capability checks and a POP chain allow authenticated attackers to overwrite administrator passwords.
This vulnerability allows low-privileged subscribers to bypass authentication mechanisms, takeover administrator accounts, and achieve complete system control.
What should be done?
- Monitor vendor advisories and updates
- Update the plugin to a secure version
Chain of evidence and sources
Kirki eklentisinin 6.2.5 ve önceki sürümleri PHP Nesne Enjeksiyonu açığı içermektedir.
Açık, 'get-single-symbol' AJAX uç noktasındaki eksik yetki kontrolünden kaynaklanmaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
The Kirki plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation via PHP Object Injection in all versions up to, and including, 6.2.5 via deserialization of untrusted input through the 'get-single-symbol' branch of the kirki_post_apis() AJAX dispatcher due to a missing capability check. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to inject a PHP Object. The additional presence of a POP chain allows attackers to overwrite an administrator's password and gain administrative access.
