Short explanation

Gitea Runner passes workflow-controlled container options into Docker job container configuration while privileged mode is disabled. A workflow author able to run jobs on an affected runner can use these options to access host namespaces and execute commands as root on the runner host.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to bypass container isolation boundaries and gain full execution privileges on the runner host in shared or single-tenant environments.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory to apply updates or patches
  • Treat container options as untrusted input when privileged mode is disabled
  • Strip or reject dangerous host configuration flags and namespace options

Show the technical text from the sources

Gitea Runner passes workflow-controlled container options into Docker job container configuration while privileged mode is disabled. Host namespace settings, expanded capabilities, and security profile overrides can remain effective despite Privileged being forced false. A workflow author able to run jobs on an affected Docker-backed runner can use these options to access host namespaces and execute commands as root on the runner host, bypassing the intended container isolation.
