Short explanation

Prior to version 1.0.0 in Coop, an unauthenticated actor can create arbitrary organizations via the GraphQL Mutation.createOrg operation. This issue can lead to database exhaustion and log noise.

Why does it matter?

Allowing outside actors to query the GraphQL API directly without authentication on exposed instances matters because it can lead to resource exhaustion and operational disruptions.

What should be done?

  • Update Coop to version 1.0.0 or later
  • Run the service on an authenticated private network
  • Follow official vendor advisories and guidance
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Coop sürüm 1.0.0 öncesindeki GraphQL Mutation.createOrg işlemi, kimlik doğrulaması olmayan aktörlerin rastgele organizasyonlar oluşturmasına olanak tanır.

Rate limiting eksikliği, veritabanı tükenmesine potansiyel olarak zemin hazırlayabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Coop is an open source review and moderation tool from ROOST. Prior to 1.0.0, the `GraphQL` `Mutation.createOrg` operation allows an unauthenticated actor to create arbitrary organizations on a publicly accessible instance. In addition to creating noise in the logs, the lack of rate limiting could potentially lead to database exhaustion. Running the service on an authenticated private network prevents outside actors from directly querying the `GraphQL` API. This issue is fixed in version 1.0.0.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
