Short explanation
Prior to version 2.2.0, OmniAuth derives provider callback URLs from request-controlled host information, creating a host header injection vulnerability. A remote unauthenticated client can supply a forged Host header when the web framework does not verify incoming hosts. This issue is fixed in version 2.2.0.
It allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate callback URLs using forged Host headers, potentially compromising authentication flows.
What should be done?
- Upgrade OmniAuth to version 2.2.0 or later
- Configure a fixed full_host
- Implement appropriately configured Rails host authorization or framework validation
Chain of evidence and sources
OmniAuth 2.2.0 öncesi sürümlerde sağlayıcı geri çağırma URL'leri istek kontrollü host bilgisinden türetilmektedir.
Kimliği doğrulanmamış bir uzak istemci sahte Host başlığı sağlayarak host header injection riskine yol açabilmektedir.
Bu güvenlik açığı 2.2.0 sürümünde giderilmiştir.
Show the technical text from the sources
OmniAuth is a flexible authentication system utilizing Rack middleware. Prior to 2.2.0, OmniAuth derives provider callback URLs from request-controlled host information when neither a fixed full_host nor framework-level incoming host validation is configured. A remote unauthenticated client can supply a forged Host header, creating a host header injection risk in applications whose web framework does not verify incoming host headers. Applications using appropriately configured Rails host authorization or a fixed full_host are not affected by this path. This issue is fixed in version 2.2.0.
