Short explanation

Apache IoTDB between versions 2.0.0 and 2.0.11 is vulnerable to privilege escalation due to a hardcoded root identity in the Legacy Pipe receiver protocol [S0].

Why does it matter?

Users with limited SYSTEM privileges can execute data loading and deletion operations as root without WRITE_DATA or DELETE_DATA permissions on target databases, completely bypassing the permission model [S0].

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory [S0]
  • Upgrade to version 2.0.11 where applicable [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Legacy Pipe protokolü, veri yükleme ve silme işlemleri sırasında sabit kodlanmış SUPER_USER (root) kimliğini kullanır [S0].

Sınırlı SYSTEM yetkilerine sahip bir kullanıcı, izin modelini bypass ederek işlemleri root yetkileriyle yürütebilir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

The Legacy Pipe receiver protocol (handshake / sendPipeData) uses a hardcoded SUPER_USER (root) identity when executing data loading and deletion operations. A user with only SYSTEM-level privileges (such as USE_PIPE or MAINTAIN) who does NOT have WRITE_DATA or DELETE_DATA permissions on target databases can send specially crafted PipeData messages through the Legacy Pipe API, resulting in data loading/deletion operations executed as root — effectively bypassing IoTDB's permission model entirely. This issue affects Apache IoTDB: from 2.0.0 before 2.0.11. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.0.11, which fixes the issue.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
