Short explanation

Hugging Face Datasets through version 5.1.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability allowing remote code execution via malicious pickle files loaded through the deprecated pandas packaged builder.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary Python code with the victim process privileges through crafted datasets, posing a high severity risk.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to apply available updates
  • Review proposed pull requests and patch references
  • Exercise caution when loading untrusted dataset files

Saldırganlar pandas paket oluşturucu üzerinden hazırlanan pickle dosyaları ile uzaktan kod çalıştırabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Hugging Face Datasets through 5.1.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary Python code by crafting a malicious pickle file loaded through the deprecated pandas packaged builder. Attackers can supply a pickle-backed dataset that is processed by Pandas._generate_tables via pandas.read_pickle() without validation, so when a victim calls datasets.load_dataset("pandas", data_files=...), the embedded __reduce__ payload executes code with the victim process's privileges.
