Short explanation

The CVE-2026-55467 vulnerability in OpenPrinting CUPS allows fax queue option values to bypass the control-character sanitizer, potentially leading to queue disruption. Sourced from S0 and S1.

Why does it matter?

It allows authorized users to inject control characters into the downstream option stream, potentially causing disruption of the affected queue. Detailed in S0 and S1.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 2.4.20 or later
  • Follow the vendor advisory
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

OpenPrinting CUPS 2.4.20 öncesi sürümlerde faks kuyruğu değerleri kontrol karakteri temizleyicisini atlamaktadır.

Bu durum etkilenen faks kuyruğunda kesintiye yol açabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, the cupsdCreateJob option-string builder in scheduler/job.c maps attacker-controlled destination-uri and pre-dial-string values from a configured fax queue to the phone and faxPrefix options. Unlike ordinary IPP job attributes, these mapped fax values bypass the control-character sanitizer and are copied directly into the filter options argument. A user permitted to submit a job can therefore inject control characters into the downstream option stream. The reporter states that a downstream fax filter passing these values to a shell or modem command could execute code as lp, while the maintainer states that CUPS has no confidentiality or integrity impact because the only known code-executing filter is optional Foomatic and addressed separately, leaving possible disruption of the affected queue. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
