Short explanation

wrensec-commons contains a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the CREST framework's HTTP binding. The HttpUtils.prepareResponse() method uses the _mimeType request parameter to set the Content-Type response header without proper sanitization. Attackers can trick users into visiting a crafted URL to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the victim's browser.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows arbitrary JavaScript execution in the victim's browser, potentially leading to session compromise or unauthorized actions performed on behalf of the user.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade to version 22.6.2 or 23.0.0
  • Follow the vendor security advisory
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

wrensec-commons, CREST çerçevesinin HTTP bağlamında yansıyan siteler arası betik çalıştırma (XSS) zafiyeti barındırmaktadır.

HttpUtils.prepareResponse() yöntemi, _mimeType parametresini Content-Type başlığını ayarlamak için uygun süzgeçten geçirmeden kullanmaktadır.

Bu güvenlik açığı 22.6.2 ve 23.0.0 sürümlerinde giderilmiştir.

Show the technical text from the sources

wrensec-commons contains a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the CREST framework's HTTP binding. The HttpUtils.prepareResponse() method used the _mimeType request parameter to set the Content-Type response header without proper sanitization. By sending a GET request with _mimeType=text/html, an attacker could cause the browser to interpret a CREST JSON response as HTML, enabling execution of arbitrary JavaScript in the victim's browser. The vulnerability is exploitable by tricking a user into visiting a crafted URL targeting any deployed CREST endpoint. The issue is fixed in versions 22.6.2 and 23.0.0.
