Short explanation

CVE-2026-19864 is a security vulnerability in Eclipse Jetty org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-security. The SessionAuthentication component retains authentication credentials in a serializable object and can cause them to be written to a session data store. This allows an attacker with sufficient privileges to obtain sensitive user credentials.

Why does it matter?

Authorized attackers can read persisted session data to acquire users' plaintext passwords.

Show the technical text from the sources

Eclipse Jetty's `SessionAuthentication` retains authentication credentials in a serializable object. When the credentials contain a plaintext password and the authenticated session is persisted to a session data store, the password may consequently be written to persistent storage in plaintext. An attacker with sufficient privileges to read the persisted session data may obtain the plaintext passwords of authenticated users.
