Short explanation

OpenEMR before version 8.4.0 contains an improper authorization vulnerability in Rainforest patient portal payments [S0]. Authenticated portal patients can tamper with browser-supplied values to write forged credits to other patients' encounters [S0].

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows authenticated users to manipulate payment data, writing forged credits exceeding the actually paid amount to other patients' encounters [S0].

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor security advisories for updates [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

OpenEMR 8.4.0 öncesi sürümler, uygunsuz yetkilendirme nedeniyle çapraz hasta ödeme manipülasyonuna açıktır.

Kimliği doğrulanmış portal hastaları, portal_payment.rainforest.php dosyasına giden JSON verilerini manipüle edebilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

OpenEMR before 8.4.0 contains an improper authorization vulnerability in Rainforest patient portal payments that trusts browser-supplied patientId, encounter, and amount values instead of deriving them from the portal session. Authenticated portal patients can tamper with JSON sent to portal_payment.rainforest.php so the payin.authorized webhook writes forged ar_activity credits to other patients' encounters exceeding the amount actually paid.
