Short explanation

OpenEMR versions from 7.0.1 before 8.4.0 contain a flaw in src/Common/Auth/OneTimeAuth.php. This vulnerability allows token replay and PIN brute force attacks, exposing patient-portal sessions.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to open patient-portal sessions and expose protected health information.

What should be done?

  • Monitor vendor advisories and updates
  • Apply patches released for the affected versions
  • Review guidance from official sources

Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

OpenEMR from 7.0.1 before 8.4.0 contains a flaw in src/Common/Auth/OneTimeAuth.php that ignores the enforce_onetime_use and max_access_count flags, never revokes consumed service_auth tokens, and checks login_pin without rate limiting or strict comparison. Attackers holding a captured token can replay it or brute-force the PIN to open patient-portal sessions exposing PHI.
