Short explanation
The Hickory DNS recursor component is vulnerable to ghost domain name attacks due to child-side NS RRset caching [S0]. This vulnerability allows name servers to continue answering despite revoked delegations [S0].
This vulnerability has a high impact on integrity, allowing the manipulation of DNS resolution mechanisms and keeping stale NS records cached indefinitely [S0].
What should be done?
- Monitor vendor advisories and apply available guidance [S0]
- Verify affected version installations [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources
Hickory DNS recursor bileşeni, çocuk taraflı NS RRset önbelleklemesi nedeniyle hayalet etki alanı saldırılarına açıktır.
Saldırganlar, bölge NS kayıtlarını tekrarlayarak eski RRset kayıtlarının önbellekte kalmasını sağlayabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
The Hickory DNS recursor in all versions of hickory-recursor and in hickory-resolver 0.26.0-beta.1 before 0.26.2 (recursor feature) is vulnerable to ghost domain names attacks because it reuses child-side apex NS RRsets cached from zone NS queries for iterative resolution. By repeatedly querying a zone's NS records, an attacker keeps the stale RRset cached indefinitely, letting name servers whose delegation the parent revoked keep answering for the zone.
