Vikunja CVE-2026-123512 Sensitive Token Exposure

Short explanation

In Vikunja versions before 2.7.1, password-reset, email-confirmation, and account-deletion tokens are embedded in the URL query string of emailed links. When a user clicks the link, the full request URI is written to HTTP access and reverse-proxy logs. Attackers with read access to these logs can replay tokens to take over accounts or confirm deletions.

Why does it matter?

Sensitive authentication tokens leaking into log files allow attackers to take over user accounts or forge account deletion confirmations.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory for guidance
  • Audit HTTP access and reverse-proxy logs for sensitive data leaks
  • Review log retention and masking policies

Show the technical text from the sources

Vikunja before 2.7.1 embeds live password-reset, email-confirmation and account-deletion tokens in the URL query string of emailed links, so the full request URI, including the token, is written to Vikunja's HTTP access log and any reverse-proxy logs when a user clicks the link. Attackers with read access to those logs can replay an unredeemed password-reset token to take over the account or an account-deletion token to confirm the deletion.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
