Short explanation
The Mail logging & Catcher plugin for WordPress up to version 2.2.0 is vulnerable to sensitive information exposure via the 'message' parameter. This enables authenticated attackers with low privileges to extract administrator password-reset keys and escalate privileges to administrator.
This vulnerability carries high risk because it allows low-privileged users, under specific configuration conditions, to escalate their privileges to administrator and achieve system compromise.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories and updates for the plugin
- Review log access roles configured outside of defaults
- Audit email logs for any suspicious activity
Chain of evidence and sources
Mail logging & Catcher eklentisinin 2.2.0 ve önceki sürümleri 'message' parametresi üzerinden hassas bilgi ifşasına açıktır.
Yetki yükseltme istismarı, yöneticinin 'default_view_role' ayarını düşük yetkili bir role yapılandırmasını gerektirir.
Show the technical text from the sources
The Mail logging & Catcher plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Sensitive Information Exposure in all versions up to, and including, 2.2.0 via the 'message' parameter. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to extract valid administrator password-reset keys from stored email logs and complete the WordPress password-reset flow to escalate privileges to administrator. Exploitation requires an administrator to have previously configured the plugin's default_view_role setting to a capability held by low-privileged users such as 'read'; on an untouched install the default of 'manage_options' restricts log access to administrators only.
