Short explanation

In the open source OCR engine Tesseract, memory corruption and denial of service can occur because ReadAdaptedClass raw-reads pre-adapted template files without neutralizing pointer fields.

Why does it matter?

Attackers who can write file-controlled inputs can trigger memory corruption and denial of service.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade to version 5.5.4 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Tesseract sürüm 5.5.4 öncesinde ReadAdaptedClass fonksiyonu işaretçi alanlarını etkisiz hale getirmeden okuma yapar.

Show the technical text from the sources

Tesseract is an open source OCR engine. Prior to 5.5.4, ReadAdaptedClass in src/classify/adaptive.cpp raw-reads an ADAPT_CLASS_STRUCT from a pre-adapted-template .a file without neutralizing TempProtos and Config pointer fields before any destructor path. When the legacy engine is selected, classify_use_pre_adapted_templates is enabled, and an attacker can write the output-basename .a file, the success or rejection path can pass file-controlled pointers to ~ADAPT_CLASS_STRUCT and operator delete, causing memory corruption and denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 5.5.4.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
