Short explanation
CVE-2026-119339 in the Tesseract open-source OCR engine involves a crafted LSTM model triggering WeightMatrix::DeSerializeOld, causing a process abort via ASSERT_HOST resulting in a denial of service.
This vulnerability can lead to application crashes and service outages through the loading of a crafted model, causing operational disruptions.
What should be done?
- Update Tesseract to version 5.5.4 or later
- Follow vendor security advisories
Chain of evidence and sources
Tesseract 5.5.4 öncesi sürümlerde, WeightMatrix::DeSerialize fonksiyonu LSTM ağından gelen mod baytına güvenmektedir.
Varsayılan FAST_FLOAT derlemelerinde ASSERT_HOST tetiklenerek süreç sonlandırma ve servis kesintisi oluşur.
Show the technical text from the sources
Tesseract is an open source OCR engine. Prior to 5.5.4, WeightMatrix::DeSerialize trusts a mode byte from a traineddata LSTM network and calls WeightMatrix::DeSerializeOld when kDoubleFlag is clear. In default FAST_FLOAT builds, DeSerializeOld invokes ASSERT_HOST instead of returning an error, so loading a crafted model through TessBaseAPI::Init terminates the process and causes denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 5.5.4.
