Short explanation
In Content Egg versions up to 12.0.0, the ajaxUpdateProducts() function lacks a per‑post capability check, allowing users with contributor role or higher to modify meta data of arbitrary posts.
The exploit can let attackers inject data into administrator posts and tamper with site content.
What should be done?
- Monitor vendor advisory for a released patch
- Restrict contributor privileges if not required
- Apply principle of least privilege
- Add current_user_can('edit_post') check for post_id in custom code
- Update to a patched version when available
Chain of evidence and sources
CVE-2026-119059, katkıda bulunan ve üzeri yetkili oturum açmış saldırganların Content Egg eklentisinde rastgele gönderi meta verilerini değiştirmesine izin verir.
Açık, ajaxUpdateProducts() içinde per‑post yetki kontrolünün eksikliği nedeniyle saldırganın gönderilen post_id değerine güvenmesinden kaynaklanır.
CVSS baz skoru 4.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N) olup, orta şiddet olarak sınıflandırılmıştır.
Show the technical text from the sources
The Content Egg plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data due to a missing per-post capability check on the ajaxUpdateProducts() function in versions up to, and including, 12.0.0. The handler verifies a static nonce ('contentegg_metabox') and the generic 'edit_posts' capability, but trusts the attacker-supplied $_POST['post_id'] verbatim and never calls current_user_can('edit_post', $post_id) — the per-object check that its sibling save_post handler saveMeta() correctly performs. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to modify Content Egg product data (_cegg_data_*) and update-timestamp post meta on arbitrary posts, including those owned by administrators.
