Short explanation
CallBackery versions before 0.62.0 for Perl encrypt configuration backups using a weak key generation method. According to S0, getCrypt() pads the backup password with "x" characters, cuts it to 32 bytes, and applies no salt or key derivation.
Based on S0 records, attackers who obtain backup files can perform fast offline guessing to recover passwords and access stored credentials.
What should be done?
- Follow official vendor advisories and announcements
- Review the vendor change logs for updates
Chain of evidence and sources
CallBackery 0.62.0 öncesi sürümler yapılandırma yedeklerini zayıf bir AES anahtarı ile şifrelemektedir.
Yedekleme şifrelemesinde tuz ve anahtar türetme adımları yer almamaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
CallBackery versions before 0.62.0 for Perl encrypt configuration backups with the padded password as the AES key. getCrypt() pads the backup password with "x" characters and cuts it to 32 bytes to form the AES key, with no salt and no key derivation. The first block of a backup holds a 16 hex digit length field, so decrypting one block confirms a password guess at raw AES speed. An attacker who obtains a backup can recover its password by fast offline guessing, and with it every credential the backup holds.
