Short explanation

A vulnerability in the Forge library allows a malicious TLS server or on-path peer to omit the certificate message, causing an uncaught exception on the client and terminating the connection.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability is significant for applications using node-forge because it can lead to crashes that affect service availability.

What should be done?

  • Monitor version information
  • Review vendor advisories and updates
  • Update the affected components
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Forge (also called node-forge) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to 1.4.1, the affected implementation used forge.tls.createConnection(), c.session.serverCertificate, RSA key exchange to process the relevant input or security decision. node-forge's TLS client checked the wrong property when deciding whether a server certificate was missing. A malicious TLS server or on-path peer could omit the Certificate message and reach code that dereferenced the absent certificate, causing an uncaught exception and terminating the connection or process. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
