Short explanation
A prototype pollution vulnerability in Highcharts Dashboards allows attackers to write values to Object.prototype. (S0, S1)
This security flaw enables attackers to influence JavaScript behavior across the page and cause critical integrity impacts depending on the consuming application logic. (S0, S1)
What should be done?
- Follow official vendor advisories and updates. (S0, S1)
- Update software components according to vendor guidance. (S0, S1)
Chain of evidence and sources
Highcharts Dashboards 1.0.0 ile 4.2.2 sürümleri arasında prototype anahtarları filtrelenmemektedir. (S0, S1)
Saldırganlar editableOptions aracılığıyla Object.prototype üzerine veri yazabilmektedir. (S0, S1)
Show the technical text from the sources
Highcharts JS is a JavaScript charting library based on SVG. From 1.0.0 until 4.2.2, Highcharts Dashboards edit mode walks editableOptions propertyPath segments without rejecting prototype-related keys. An attacker who controls editableOptions can provide a path through __proto__ or constructor, and a user's edit writes the configured value onto Object.prototype. The property then becomes visible to JavaScript throughout the page, with consequences determined by the consuming application. This issue is fixed in 4.2.2.
