Short explanation

REDAXO versions prior to 5.21.3 contain a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in the backend user administration page. Attackers can target logged-in users to grant administrator rights or lock out accounts.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows critical privilege escalation and account administration takeover via unauthenticated requests, compromising system integrity.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates
  • Update REDAXO core to version 5.21.3 or later
  • Audit user privileges and sessions

Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

REDAXO before 5.21.3 contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in the backend user administration page (users/users) because the CSRF token check only runs when the save parameter is set, while the update path triggered by FUNC_UPDATE does not require it. Attackers can lure a logged-in backend user with the users[] permission to a crafted GET link to grant administrator rights, deactivate accounts, or lock out the sole administrator.
