Short explanation

The jtsternberg CMB2 plugin up to version 2.13.4 is vulnerable to Unauthenticated Stored Cross-Site Scripting due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping.

Why does it matter?

It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates
  • Review plugin code and form configurations
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

The CMB2 plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'cmb43ex1_grp[0][txt] (wysiwyg field inside group — field id controlled by integrator config)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.13.4 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is only exploitable when a site integrator renders the plugin's documented front-end form helper with a wysiwyg field inside a repeatable group on a publicly accessible page.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
