Short explanation

Prior to version 1.1.10.9 of snappy-java, unvalidated ranges passed in Snappy.arrayCopy and related stream methods allow out-of-bounds reads or writes via native memcpy, causing a JVM crash.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to trigger JVM crashes using untrusted input, threatening service availability.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 1.1.10.9 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

snappy-java sürüm 1.1.10.9 öncesinde Snappy.arrayCopy metodu çağrıcı aralıklarını doğrulamadan yerel memcpy işlevine aktarır.

Geçersiz aralık değerleri dizi sınırları dışına erişilmesine ve JVM'in çökmesine neden olabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

snappy-java is a Java port of the snappy, a fast C++ compresser/decompresser developed by Google. Prior to 1.1.10.9, Snappy.arrayCopy(Object src, int offset, int byteLength, Object dest, int destOffset) passes caller-supplied ranges to native memcpy without validating either array, allowing negative or oversized byteLength and offset values to read or write outside array bounds and crash the JVM. SnappyOutputStream.rawWrite and SnappyInputStream.rawRead, including their typed-array write and read methods, pass caller-controlled ranges through this primitive, and typed-array byte-size calculations can overflow int. This issue is fixed in version 1.1.10.9.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
