Short explanation

A permissive CORS configuration in vLLM allows attackers to reach unauthenticated servers through victims' browsers. This vulnerability prior to version 0.32.0 can lead to endpoint calls and resource consumption.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability enables malicious web pages to target vLLM servers on local or internal networks, leading to resource consumption and reading of responses.

What should be done?

  • Update vLLM to version 0.32.0 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories and security releases
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

vLLM, sürüm 0.32.0 öncesinde OpenAI uyumlu sunucusunda varsayılan olarak joker karakterli CORS ayarları kullanır.

Show the technical text from the sources

vLLM is an inference and serving engine for large language models. Prior to 0.32.0, the OpenAI-compatible server configures Starlette CORSMiddleware with allowed_origins set to a wildcard by default. A malicious web page can use a victim's browser to reach an unauthenticated vLLM server on localhost, an internal network, or a VPN, call endpoints including GET /v1/models and POST /v1/chat/completions, consume GPU resources, and read responses. Cookie-based cross-site request forgery does not apply because credentials are disabled by default, and deployments requiring bearer authentication are exposed only when the caller already has a usable token. This issue is fixed in version 0.32.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
