vLLM Insecure Serialization and Shared Memory Vulnerability

Short explanation

In vLLM prior to version 0.32.0, an authenticated caller can manipulate shared-memory addresses and monotonic_id values, passing attacker-selected bytes to worker-side pickle.loads() even when insecure serialization is disabled. This allows arbitrary Python code execution (S0).

Why does it matter?

In scale-out deployments with shared-memory multimodal caching enabled, this vulnerability can allow attackers to execute arbitrary code and compromise the security of worker components (S0).

What should be done?

  • Upgrade vLLM to version 0.32.0 or later
  • Follow the vendor security advisories
  • Review shared-memory multimodal caching configurations
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

0.32.0 öncesi vLLM sürümlerinde, ortak bellek adreslerinin sahtelenmesi worker tarafında pickle.loads() fonksiyonuna ulaşmaktadır.

Bu zafiyet, güvensiz serileştirme devre dışı bırakılmış olsa bile rastgele Python kodu yürütülmesine izin vermektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

vLLM is an inference and serving engine for large language models. Prior to 0.32.0, an authenticated caller can place forged shared-memory address and monotonic_id values in public multimodal features.kwargs_data. In scale-out deployments with shared-memory multimodal caching enabled, workers trust those values and pass attacker-selected bytes to pickle.loads(), allowing arbitrary Python execution even when insecure serialization is disabled. This issue is fixed in version 0.32.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
