Short explanation

The CVE-2026-115907 vulnerability in the zip-rs zip2 package causes capacity overflow and unhandled panic due to attacker-controlled ZIP64 uncompressed size in applications using the legacy-zip feature.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability presents a denial of service risk that can terminate archive-processing services.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates
  • Update affected library versions
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

5.1.0 ile 9.0.0 arasındaki sürümlerde legacy-zip özelliği kullanan uygulamalar saldırgan kontrollü ZIP64 boyutundan etkilenebilir.

ShrinkDecoder, Reduce ve Implode kod çözücülerindeki sınırsız ön ayırma deseni arşiv işleme servisinin sonlanmasına yol açabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

zip is a zip library for Rust that supports reading and writing simple ZIP files. From 5.1.0 until 9.0.0, applications built with the legacy-zip feature can reserve output capacity from an attacker-controlled ZIP64 uncompressed size before validating the compressed stream. The ShrinkDecoder path in src/legacy/shrink.rs can panic with a capacity overflow during ZipArchive::extract, and the Reduce and Implode decoders contain the same unbounded preallocation pattern. An unhandled panic can terminate an archive-processing service. This issue is fixed in version 9.0.0.

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
